Camas High School (CHS) senior Elie Nava has just finished out her fourth and final cross country season at CHS. Nava helped bring her team to state this year, leading to the thrilling conclusion of her cross country journey at CHS.

Nava began her career as a runner in eighth grade at Skyridge Middle School, bringing her to a total of five years as a runner and four years as a CHS athlete. In that time, Nava built her skills and endurance through hard work and dedication, allowing her to hit a new personal record (PR) at the Nike Cross Regional Championships (NXR Championships).
Along with her cross country running, Nava has made an exceptional career out of track and field as well. In the 2024 District Championships, she ran her season record time, placing fifth in the 1600 meter race and fourth in the 3200 meter.
“Honestly, I think what I’m most proud of isn’t really specific races or times,” Nava said. ¨It’s more about the hard work I’ve put in, along with the discipline it takes to train everyday.”
Nava might not have discovered her passion for running if it had not been for the loving and supportive community she found through the sport. Eva McGeachy, a CHS junior and Nava’s teammate, have been close friends for the past three years because of cross country.
“She’s super hardworking and dedicated,” McGeachy said. “I love her kindness and work ethic. She’s a good friend and teammate to everybody.”
“I think it’s really important to have such a good environment with people that support you but also challenge you.” Nava said.

Throughout her years at CHS, Nava has formed close relationships both on and off the track, creating that feeling of support which helped her achieve her goals. In addition to her work in cross country, she also serves as the social media manager in the CHS journalism program.
“I think Elie is a hard worker, and she takes feedback very well. She knows how to turn what could be perceived weakness into strengths.” Kate Gooding, CHS teacher and journalism adviser, said. “She takes any feedback and runs with it, growing into a better student and journalist each time. I’m sure she uses that skill to become a better runner as well.”
Nava plans to continue her journey in distance running past high school. She has already made huge strides in CHS sports and is equally excited to pursue her passion later in life, whether it is in a competitive or noncompetitive level.
Nava attributed her biggest successes to her work ethic and confidence.
“Putting in the work and having a lot of confidence in yourself is super important,” Nava said. “Especially in running, it can be really easy to compare yourself to other people because there is always someone who is faster than you. Having confidence that you can work your way up to be just as good as anyone is the biggest thing that I think can lead you to your biggest successes.”
