Cameron Long teaches AP Human Geography and US History here at Camas High School. Students enjoy his classes with their fun environments. He answered a few interesting questions for the series, “Get to Know You.”
C: What has been your weirdest experience while teaching?
L: “There are too many answers to that. Um…I mean I have a lot of stories but I don’t know if any of them are things that I want published. I’ve had some interesting chaperoning experiences at dances. We’ll just say that.”
C: If you could have any superpower, what power would you want?
L: “Oh my god, all of the powers. I think telekinesis is what I would go with most because then I can move anything, and then with telekinesis, you can fly and do all this other stuff. So, I think that’s the go to. But, I would love like regenerative powers and so many others.”
C: If you could swap places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
L: “Just for a day? Someone really rich, so I could transfer all of their money to my bank account. Who would that be? It might be fun to be a rich athlete so I could know what it’s like to have coordination for a day. So maybe like Lebron James or something like that. So, I could take all of his money and feel what it is like to dribble a ball without looking dumb.”
C: If you could pick one extravagant animal to have as a pet, what would you choose and why?
L: “I mean as a kid I always wanted a sloth. I think I would like the sloth, so I could just look at it and be envious of its lifestyle. Like, sleeping for eighteen hours a day and moving super slow. Yeah, sloth or a unicorn, but I’m assuming you want a real one.”
C: Who was you’re favorite high school teacher and why?
L: “Doctor Mooney, my eleventh grade English teacher was probably my favorite because he was super weird but like awesome. Like, he knew what he was doing and he actually helped me to learn how to write, like he taught me more about writing than most of my college professors did. So, not boring and totally knew his business.”
C: Are you aware that you have a fan page?
L: “I am aware of that, yes. I don’t think it’s a fan page. I think it’s a…I don’t like the word fan page. That implies there’s idolization, like all of that stuff. But yeah, I’m somewhat aware of that.”
C: How do you feel about that?
L: “I find it entertaining most of the time. I think it’s hilarious until it isn’t, and that hasn’t happened yet. So, that’s fine.”
C: What is the most useless or weird talent you have?
L: “My teaching ability. I don’t know. I think I’ve put all of my talents to use. I don’t think I have any useless talents. Like, I don’t have anything fun. Trivia knowledge, probably. Like knowing stupid things about comic books.”
C: What is the dumbest way you have been injured?
L: “Literally walking. I was walking and I sprained my ankle. I wasn’t running, I wasn’t playing a game. I wasn’t doing anything fun. Oh, there was also this other time where I was walking and I scraped half my face off because I fell down. Yeah, walking is dangerous when you’re six five. Ah, It’s the worst.”
C: If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live and why?
L: “I think I would like to live in Vancouver, Canada because it’s super beautiful. I love the Pacific Northwest vibe, but Canada does some things that I appreciate more than in America. So, it would be like living in America but better. But, I’d also want to be rich. So, hopefully, I got to be Lebron James and steal all his money and then move to Vancouver, Canada, with my sloth.”
