There is a bloody, wicked, world travel opportunity coming up, and it’s not just a load of rubbish, mate!
In the summer of 2020, students will have the opportunity to accompany Mrs. Jeanne Jarvis on a trip through the United Kingdom, as well as the capital of France. The trip through the British Isles and the city of lights is put together by EF Tours, a company that focuses on experiential learning, and cultural immersion.
While in her third year teaching AP World History and Pre-AP English 9 at CHS, Jarvis has experience leading excursions. She led the one Interact service trip to Puerto Rico in the Summer of 2018.
The ten-day tour (requested through EF from July 9th-19th, 2020)* kicks off in Ireland, heading through Shannon, Killarney, Blarney, and Dublin. Then a ferry will be taken from Dublin to Holyhead, Wales. After that, throughout the Birmingham region of England all the way down to London. After London, the crew will dive under the English Channel to Paris via the Eurostar train. One additional day will be spent touring Paris prior to returning back to the Pacific Northwest.
Time to address the elephant in the room – how much does the trip cost? Prices vary by location, length of trip, and general transportation costs but are generally between $2500 and $4500 for everything – accommodations, airfare/transportation, a tour guide, meals, etc. This isn’t pocket change, but Jarvis brings up that for her trip last summer “the cost was offset by fundraising, so the costs were much lower.”
Students traveling outside the U.S by themselves, or in a group for the first time tend to create unforgettable memories. Jarvis feels “reward[ed] to be part of that experience, and students make it fun!” She is most looking forward to “seeing new places [she’s] ever been” along with “trying new foods”.
Interested students should “talk to their parents about the [time frame that fits them best]* and locations they most want to visit,” advises Jarvis. “Travel is the best teacher! Expand your horizons,” she proclaims.
If interested, students can email Mrs. Jarvis at [email protected], or stop by room 706 for further questions.
