February 19, 2016, several months after the release of their award-winning album, Life’s Not Out to Get You, Welsh pop punk band, Neck Deep, took the stage at the El Corazon in Seattle, Washington. 800 fans packed tightly into a 400 maximum capacity venue – this is a place music fans tend to call home.
Lights went down in the venue as the crowd shoved forward and the people in the front row were launched uncomfortably close to the stage. Up and coming Canadian band, Like Pacific, started the night off right opening with Worthless Case from their newly released album, Distant Like You Asked. Fists went up and so did bodies.
The crowd’s energy increased as Knuckle Puck came on stage and lead singer, Joe Taylor gave his iconic speech, letting the fans know that they can turn to their music for a sense of safety when they feel like they might need it. Next up was State Champs whose set was so intense that a girl at the barricade broke her collarbone and needed to be escorted out – that’s how you know it was a good show.
With anticipation reaching an ultimate peak, Neck Deep opened their set with the first track off LNOTGY, Citizens of Earth. Bodies came flying forward over the rest of the crowd and people joined the band on stage before quickly jumping back out on top of the crowd. Lead singer Ben Barlow’s voice was quickly swallowed and overcome by the fan’s voices. Fourteen songs and hundreds of bruises later, the band ended the night with their 2015 single, “Can’t Kick Up the Roots”. As the lights went up, the fans left the venue and made their three-hour trips to Portland, Oregon to see the bands play again the next day. February 20, 2016, Like Pacific, Knuckle Puck, State Champs, and Neck Deep gave an unforgettable performance yet again at the Hawthorne Theatre.
