At the end of the 2017 season, the Union Titans ended the Camas Papermakers long regular season winning streak with a 14-13 win at Doc Harris Stadium. Union scored 14 fourth-quarter points to seal the win and become the Greater St. Helens League champions.
That was last year, this year the Papermakers looked to return the favor against the Titans at Mckenzie Stadium last Friday night. On a cold, rainy night, the Greater St. Helens League title game was underway. Union struck first with a one-yard rushing touchdown by running back Alis
Going into halftime the Papermakers were down 14-0 but did not appear to be defeated. In the locker room Head Coach John Eagle’s message to his players was very simple: “Whoever wants to win this game the most wants to fight, not a physical fight but play their tails off and play for their brothers.” This message must have clicked with the players because the Papermakers came out rolling on both sides of the ball.
The Titans received the kick-off but were stopped by Camas’ defense. The offense would lose the football on a fumble only to get it back on the next play, setting up the first and only score of the night by senior running back Shane Jamison. The Camas defense proceeded to shut out the top-ranked Titans for the rest of the game but could not get the offense going. The game ended 14-7 after sophomore quarterback Jake Blair threw an incomplete pass on a fourth-and-nine play with 1:23 left in the game.
The Papermakers play the Bothell High Cougars on Saturday, November 3rd at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell, Washington at 3 P.M. While the Titans will stay at home to face the Enumclaw High Hornets at McKenzie Stadium Friday, November 2nd at 7 P.M.
