The drama department has put on many plays and musicals over the years, but Little Shop of Horrors is the newest.
This play has spectacular costumes and an amazing set design that Mr. Kelly, Mrs. Carol, and the rest of the drama department have spent a lot of time making. This musical is a great horror comedy to go to. Little shop of horrors show opens on Friday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m. Performances will run again on Saturday, March 17, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The second weekend will be Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24, at 7:00 p.m and at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. respectively. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and students. Students must provide a valid ASB card to get the reduced ticket price. There will also be photo opportunities with one of the plants after the show for a few extra dollars. In addition, flowers can be purchased at the concessions for the actors, orchestra, and the techies that run the show behind the curtain.
There is a big difference between watching the play and playing a part in the creation of it. From all the long rehearsals and nit-picking of crucial moments, it is very rewarding to see the play all come together. Many of the actors have very good feelings about the show. Omar Shafiuzzaman says, “I think that everyone will enjoy it and it’s great to do a horror because we haven’t done one of those in a long time, so I think the audience will like the change in tone. The plant is definitely one reason why people should come see the show, no one will expect how big it is and what it does.” Chloe Higgins who plays Audrey says, “I love how full out we are going with our characters, these larger than life characters doing crazy things on stage that no one would expect, it is so fun to have a play with so many loving people.” Chloe is so grateful for being one of the leads in the show and has always dreamed this part from when she was 6 years old.
Ben Peterson, a member in the pit orchestra, “It’s great to be in the pit. I love seeing the show come together and especially love the little inside jokes we have.” And freshman Isabel domnich says “I like how everyone is nice and friendly, it is my first show and it was very inviting and i love how the musical is so interesting and the set design is so pretty and very detailed.” About three months has been spent creating and designing the stage so there is no detail that is missed. The show is coming together wonderfully and all the aspects that take place is terrific to watch. All the cast is looking forward to performing in front of a audience and can not wait to see everyone there. All the seniors could not have asked for a better show to perform as there send off into college.
The first two shows have all ready happened but there will be more this weekend that people can go to. Some people said about their experience seeing the musical was “The singing plant was super detailed oriented. Megan Nash – I liked the vibe that it put off and all the characters and the contrast and how they interacted with each other.” Sophomore Daria Oviatt.
