Camas High School is home to more than 50 clubs, all offering something unique to the student body. With such a large array to choose from, some clubs are left in need of a little love. The Camas Interact Club deserves some love this year as they give plenty of love to the Camas community. The club is in need of new members to help the spirit of community service thriving at CHS.
The Interact group volunteers locally and donates money both locally and internationally to those in need. Camas/Washougal Rotary sponsors the club and works the groups work in tandem to improve and support the community.
President Aria Wiegand, a Camas junior, leads the club along with Interact Secretary Julia Coombs, a Camas senior, and the Interact Vice President Sabine Postma, also a Camas senior. Their advisor is Mr. Long. The group meets every other Thursday in Mr. Long’s room, 408, right after school. They always promise snacks and a nice, quick meeting that ends before the buses leave. Discussion during the meetings often revolves around future projects and new ideas to benefit society.
So far this year, the group has focused on getting to know its new members and is in the process of creating team shirts and reorganizing the club after losing many seniors. They also put together a float in the Homecoming parade to advertise Interact Club and thoroughly enjoyed throwing candy to the Homecoming crowd. They have many upcoming events including Walk-and-Knock, which is on the first Saturday of December. The club will work together with its fellow Interact Club at Washougal High School to collect canned goods for those in need in the community. Club Secretary, Julia Coombs, loves this event, saying “This is an easy, rewarding event that truly benefits the community! I look forward to Walk-and-Knock every year.” The club is also very excited that Liberty Middle School created an Interact branch this year. Right now the high school Interact Club is in the process of transferring funds to the middle school branch, and the club members can not wait to help out the new Liberty branch with their future endeavors.
Interact welcomes anyone interested in joining the club to come check them out on Thursdays and will continue to accept new members throughout the year. Wiegand, club President, says “Please come out! We would love to have anyone who is interested in giving a little back to the community to come check us out. Hope to see everyone at our next meeting!”
Students can also contact Wiegand, Coombs or Postma for more information.
