While some students may hit the road this holiday season, others may be settling in for a nice winter ‘stay-cation’. For those staying home, the best way to pass the time is by grabbing a cup of hot cocoa and a blanket and turning on the television to watch classic winter movies.
It might be hard to find the right movie to watch when almost all of them have already been seen. The most popular movie during the holiday season is “Elf.” This movie is about a kid who was raised as an elf in the North Pole and is sent to the U.S. to find his true father and learn about his true identity. It is a classic to watch with family or friends because it shows what it feels like to be split up and then to reconnect with family. This emotional but humorous movie is a definite watch everyone should see.
Another movie that should be on a holiday watch list is “A Christmas Story.” When sitting down and watching this almost everyone can relate to not getting the gift they want because it is something that is too dangerous or just will never be used after it is opened. Everyone has to see this oldie, but goodie, movie.
In Dr. Seuss’ live-action movie, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” starring Jim Carrey, a bad guy learns to love Christmas. This movie is also on Netflix, which most people have access to in this day and age. Grab a few friends and watch this movie while singing along to it, too.
One of the most loved holiday movies is “Home Alone.” Almost everyone knows what this movie is about, but if not – it is about a kid named Kevin who gets left home while his nine siblings get to go to Paris for Christmas. Later in the story, there are two burglars who try to rob Kevin’s house, and he has to devise a plan to keep them out. This is a must watch.
If someone finishes all of these movies, another all-time favorite holiday movie is “Die Hard.” This action-packed flick is filmed during the holiday season and is about a New York cop who comes to LA to visit his wife. An action movie is perfect to watch when all the other movies have been seen. This mature movie is great to watch with a bag of popcorn and the anticipation of a few jump scares.
Happy movie watching!
