As the last of the leaves fall from the trees and a bitter chill fills the air, thoughts of sitting by a cozy fire, warm cocoa in hand, start to appear in everyone’s minds. It seems like the snow on the ground sends a plague of laziness throughout the Northern Hemisphere and reduces everyone to mindless, comfort-food-eating zombies. One of the many delicacies enjoyed at every party is surely fudge. Here is one of the easiest, yet mouth-watering recipes for all to enjoy.
Fudge-makers will need: tin foil, a large baking sheet, a medium-sized, microwave-safe bowl, a rubber baking spatula, a can opener, and a microwave; two 12-ounce bags of the same chocolate (or any other flavor) chips, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk will also be needed for each batch of fudge.
Before getting started, place tin foil on the baking sheet, covering the whole sheet. Now, put both bags of chocolate chips, along with the can of sweetened condensed milk, into the bowl together and mix them so that the chocolate chips are fully covered. After mixing, put the bowl into the microwave and heat it on high for one and a half to two minutes. Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and stir the ingredients vigorously until the mixture has no chunks. While it is still warm, pour the fudge onto the baking sheet and spread it evenly. Place the baking sheet in a refrigerator and leave it in there overnight.
Once set, take the baking sheet out of the fridge and separate the fudge from the tin foil. Cut the fudge to the bite-sized pieces and share with friends, family, teachers, or anyone who wants fudge (there will be many).
Other than milk chocolate, flavors such as peanut butter, butterscotch, and peppermint can also be made and enjoyed. All of these can be made the same way as mentioned above with a slight change for peppermint. For this, use white chocolate chips for your base and add peppermint bark before melting the fudge in the microwave until the desired amount is attained.
It is recommended to store the fudge in a refrigerator to prevent the fudge from sticking together and becoming one big piece of fudge. But once out of the fridge, beware: the craving is infectious and spreads like a plague. So before it is all gone, be sure to take a picture and post it to any social media platform with the hashtag #camasonian so your creation can be seen and envied by all.
