The debates are over, and now Americans across the country tensely await the results of the election on November 8th. But what got the country to this point? The Camasonian takes a closer look at the debates that brought the country to where it is today.
In the final debate, Clinton, wearing a white suit, declared Republican candidate Donald Trump is completely incorrect believing the election is “rigged.” Wallace asked if the candidates would accept the outcome of the election, and Trump alarmingly responded he would not accept the outcome if he did not win, and Clinton found this to be “horrifying.” The thereafter affirmed Trump was, “Talk[ing] down our democracy.” Clinton stressed Donald Trump is a “puppet” of Vladimir V. Putin and has mentioned to voters Trump cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons.
Secretary Clinton expressed she, “Would not add a penny to the national debt.” Critics view this as a heavy exaggeration of the economic situation of the United States of America. After two other debates, Clinton continues to relate Wallace’s questions to ‘the wealthy needing to pay their fair share.’
Both candidates used fallacies in their arguments by stirring up past events or scandals. The Democratic nominee mentioned Trump’s evasion of taxes, misogynistic comments towards women, and the denial of published Tweets.
Clinton repeated her newly adopted motto “America is great because America is good” throughout the final debate. This phrase is interpreted from nineteenth-century French author Alexis de Tocqueville, who wrote Democracy in America. Tocqueville wrote, “America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” There are many interpretations of what this quote could mean, and the most common perception is America’s people are inherently good, thus America is great.
Many polls include predictions of the democratic nominee winning the race, but only time will tell who the real victor is. Clinton is presumed the next president, declared by many Democrats and even Republicans. Election Day is on November 8, 2016. All United States citizens above the age of 18 are encouraged to vote.
