Both the Camas boys’ and girls’ track teams clinched the district title on May 11th. This was particularly special for the girls’ team as it was their second district title in a row.
Halle Jenkins, a Camas sophomore and Varsity track runner, attributes their success to “the close team atmosphere; we always support one another in each race.” This tight knit feel is especially apparent in the distance group because many of them also participate in Camas Cross Country together in the Fall.
Even though Camas track is not new to success, the team was thrilled to come away with another district title. Madison Child, a Camas junior and track runner said, “Winning districts makes me proud of my hard work and all the hard work of my teammates. We couldn’t have done it without the endless support of our coaches and fellow athletes.” This was also Coach Wise’s last year running the girls track team, so the girls wanted to go out on a win to show their thanks for all of her hard work and dedication to Camas track.
Now that districts are over, a few of the Camas athletes have advanced past the bi-district stage and are on their way to the state competition that will be held over Memorial Day weekend. Though a little nervous, Camas junior Emma Jenkins is on her way to her third state appearance. Her goal is to “go out there, have fun, and try to get fast times despite the hot conditions.” She will be competing in the mile and the two mile.
Congratulations track, and good luck to the athletes participating in state next weekend!
