Camas Track recently beat all the other schools at districts, then proceeded to Bi-districts as the highest seed. Bi-districts came and went, and several Camas kids took first in their events, One of these people is Madison Peffers, a junior, who has been excelling at high jump for years, recently, Maddy went to State, and took home the title of State Champion in the high jump, at the 4A level.
Currently ranked first place in districts, Peffers has set many PR’s, and she has also broken the Camas girls record with a jump of 5’5.25. Peffer’s is roughly 5’6. She has been very dominant in the high jump and hopes to take her skills past high school and into college, to clinch the state title, Peffers jumped a height of 5’6”.
With the help of coaches like Mr. Jaurez (a science teacher at Liberty Middle School) Ann Matthews and Alisa Wise, Peffers went from jumping 5’1, to her current 5’5.25. Coach Juarez saw potential in Peffers that kept her working on her craft for two hard years, by the time she was in 8th grade, she won first place in districts.
From then on, she joined Evergreen Storm Track Team and went to state in Houston Texas, where she placed 11th out of 55 competitors. She has worked so hard to be this good, and she is a perfect example of the good things that happen when someone works hard, believes in themselves, and take what they do seriously.
Maddy is eagerly awaiting nationals after her win at the state competition. For more info about Maddy, and Nationals, check back on the website in about two weeks.
