As of the week of May 12–16, 2025, a multitude of Camas High School (CHS) sports teams have qualified for state or have upcoming events such as bi-districts.

“A lot of athletes won their events in the district tournament for track, so there will be a ton of people going to bi-districts and then state in the next two weeks,” CHS Associate Principal Stephen Baranowski said. “Golf qualified both teams for state, so boys and girls are going to state.”
In addition to the golf and track teams, the girls tennis team is heading to bi-districts next week and to state the following week.
During district competition, tennis doubles and singles players placed first, second, and third.
“Avery Fisher and I are undefeated as well as Hailey and Taryn Kerker who placed first in districts,” CHS senior Greta Barbarskite said. “Yvonne Yin took first place in singles, while Liya Zhao took third place.”
To keep their spirits up and prepare for the road to state, the girls tennis team is focused on staying positive before matches and supporting one another so everyone can perform their best.
When it comes to golf—specifically the girls team—they are focused on resting and recharging, as many were sick after districts, while also making sure everyone practices individually to stay prepared.

During district competition for golf, both the boys and girls teams supported one another and made a point to cheer each other on.
“We spent a lot of time team bonding since we had big dinners—and the boys were included in those,” CHS junior Isla Lucero said. “At night, we would all just hang out together. That was very beneficial for building up camaraderie.”
Many athletes met or exceeded their personal bests during the golf district competition.
“Jasmine Chen shot her personal best at 66, which is really good since it’s five under par and helped us place second overall,” Lucero said. “I haven’t been doing as well as I want to, but I did manage to tie my personal record.”
Chen’s score during the tournament was close to the level of play seen in the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), making it the best of her career. She also won the district tournament as an individual due to her score.
Another notable athlete achievement came from Chase McGee, who broke the previous state record of 17 feet, 4.5 inches by clearing 17 feet, 5 inches in the pole vault.
CHS teams will continue their road to state, focusing on hard work and maintaining strong team spirit. Individual athletes are aiming to surpass their personal bests with hopes of placing at state.
