Camas is constantly expanding and constantly have to up the staff count! Camas is a school with just over 2,100 students and to balance the ratio of teachers to students, Camas has recruited more teachers. One of the newest teachers is English teacher, Jeanne Jarvis. She is a senior English teacher – Working exclusively with seniors can be draining for any teacher, Mrs. Jarvis says “Working with seniors is very exhausting” I sat down with Mrs. Jarvis to get to know her a bit more, here is what she had to say.
How long have you been teaching?
“About 25 years.”
Where did you grow up?
“Port Angeles Washington.”
When did you start teaching?
“Umm… 1989.”
Where did you graduate from?
“My first teaching degree came from western Washington University, then got my grad degree at WSU Vancouver.”
Any hobbies?
“Anything to do with the outdoors, hiking. My dog, umm books, music.”
Why did you want to teach English?
“So basically we had to learn about my students at, because I think communication is so essential in major success.”
How long have you wanted to be a teacher?
“About the time I had to decide on my major, so 1989.”
What made you wanna be a teacher?
“Um… truthfully, I thought I was going to go into psychology and high school counseling and didn’t want to get my masters right away, so this was my alternative”
What was your biggest inspiration to be a teacher?
“Umm… my biggest inspiration is, actually, you know, what I just want everybody to be more understanding of the world and to be competitive in global society.”
How do you try to make class unique?
“Oh gosh, I try to bring in as much different styles as possible.”
What do your students do that drive you bonkers?
“Haha! Umm… can I use an example? Eddy Vera-Soto, playing with his little skateboard, hahaha, umm… no, normally just when they’re not dialed in.”
