The fall sports season at Camas High School (CHS) is wrapping up quickly, with post-season events finishing or set to conclude in the coming weeks.
Cross Country concluded its state meet last weekend in Pasco, Washington. A few standout performances include Cohen Butler placing 5th in the 4A boys state race and Eliisa Marshall placing 6th in the 4A girls state race. Marshall’s finish helped lead the girls team to place 9th overall. Additionally, the boys team finished 10th overall.
Girls Soccer ended its season in the first round of the Sweet 16 state tournament, losing to Curtis 1-0. The team finished the season with eight wins, six ties, and one loss.
“One outstanding player that I would love to shout out is Abby Doyle. While also a great teammate and leader, Abby has an immense impact every game on both offense and defense,” Ella Ziesemer said.
Ziesemer, who is also on the varsity girls soccer team, mentioned that Doyle knows the field like the back of her hand and, with this knowledge, is able to command the rest of the team effectively.
Looking ahead to next season, while the team will lose several key players, there are a few younger players who will be valuable contributors.
Girls Swim finished the regular season undefeated and claimed the 4A district championship. They are headed to the 4A WIAA State meet from November 14-16. A few exceptional district swims include Genova Michaelson winning the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.57, and Poppy Jones-Wick winning the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.83. The CHS girls swim team also swept all three relay events, earning a spot at state.
“Emily Parker is not only a fantastic swimmer, but also an excellent teammate who has helped cultivate a successful team dynamic throughout the season,” Rose Crawford said.
Crawford also mentioned that Parker has a lot of experience and is able to bridge the gap between swimmers who are just starting out and those who have been swimming competitively for years.
Boys Golf won their district title and will move on to state, which takes place during the spring sports season.
“Boys Golf ended up winning their district title, which is a big deal because they lost their league title and came back strong,” CHS Athletic Director Stephen Baranowski said.
Volleyball competed in the bi-district tournament from November 14-16 and will advance to state.
Boys Tennis won the bi-district tournament and will also compete at state during the spring sports season.
Slow Pitch Softball did not make the postseason.
Overall, CHS sports teams have had a successful post-season, and many exciting events are still ahead in the coming weeks.
