Plot Analysis:
Inspired by true events this extraordinary film highlights the contributions of three African American women to the NASA space program. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson were three very talented young women whose incredible mathematical brains are behind the launch of astronaut John Glenn. At a time when African Americans were overcoming social prejudice and fighting for personal freedoms in the face of Jim Crow laws, the hardworking women in the NASA program were breaking down social and racial barriers in a very controversial time.
Overall:
It is a refreshing side of history that is often ignored. This story that media has neglected to acknowledge, is one of great importance. Intelligence has no skin color, and this film honors these amazing women for who they were, bringing their lives into the foreground, in a time when people would rather have them fade into the background.
The film’s soundtrack and acting coupled to tell an emotional story that will have you on the edge of your seat.
