Camas School District (CSD) staff and volunteers significantly contributed to setting up for the Camas High School (CHS) Homecoming football game on Friday, Oct. 6, at Doc Harris by helping with tasks around the stadium to make sure the cheerleaders and football players, as well as seniors, had a great time.
At around 10 a.m., Dayne Minor started brushing the stadium turf to make sure the fibers of the field were up and fluffy to make the ground comfortable for the players. Additionally, Minor cleared the area of trash for a cleaner environment that the team and fans can enjoy.
At 2 p.m., Concessions Manager Lisa Schneider started setting up the stands and getting everything related up and running. Schneider also helped teach the CHS Girls Track team how to run the different machines. Thanks to Schneider’s help, the track team sold concessions and raised money to fund their sport this year.
“Our football setup crew is usually there at about 4:30 [p.m.], and they’re setting up for the day and stay throughout the game,” Associate Principal and Athletics Director Stephen Baranowski said.
CSD staff were not the only people to help out that night. The parents of CHS football players and cheerleaders volunteered and supported their kids for the Homecoming game and Senior Night, celebrating the senior athletes.
The fathers of the football team, the Kong Crew, are the ones that inflate the popup football player that the team runs through. They ensure he does not fly away and test to ensure he works by arriving an hour before the game and doing practice inflation.
The mothers of the cheerleading team helped set up for Senior Night by making personal stands for the senior cheerleaders to celebrate their last homecoming game as students.
“We just want to celebrate the seniors and all they do for our girls and the examples they are,” Amy Fogle said.
“I feel like Doc Harris is the best field we have in the area,” CHS Varsity defensive and running back Victor Tran said, “The field is great, the turf is nice, the stadium is beautiful, and the fans are amazing.”
“It was awesome. The atmosphere was great, the competition was great, and I love playing and balling out with my brothers,” CHS Varsity running back Titan Brody said, “I appreciate all the prep you guys do for us. Without that, I feel like Camas football and athletics as a whole would be a different story.”
Thanks to the efforts of CSD staff, parents, and volunteers, players and fans can have a fantastic night full of comfort and fun.
