In Honor Of Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a special day of the year as it is a day to honor the mothers of the world. Being a mother has taught the teachers of Camas High School (CHS) how important it is to have empathy for all of their students and the parents of their students. Having kids has strengthened their skills as a teacher and how they go about teaching on a day-to-day basis.

“Being a mom has helped me understand and empathize better with parents than I would have if I didn’t have kids of my own,” science teacher Brianna Abraham said.

Before having children, many of the teachers felt as if they lacked some compassion toward parents and students. They did not have kids of their own to really understand what it felt like to see the problems their own children have to overcome and face.

“When I see kids that are going through stuff and I think about my own kids going through whatever, I remember that they too have families and people that care about them,” English and world history teacher Jeanne Jarvis said.

A handful of the teachers find that watching their kids grow up and make friends is a very rewarding experience. It’s gratifying knowing that they are able to teach their children new ideas and that they are who their children look up to be.

“The best part of being a mom is seeing your children grow up and be able to accomplish more things in life,” Japanese and English teacher Karen Lovre said.

When comparing the two lifestyles, they believed their ability to teach was much greater after having kids versus not having kids.

“I taught before I had kids and after I had kids, and it definitely made me a better teacher,” CTE teacher Jill Fuller said.

Being the number one teacher to their children is a satisfying accomplishment, as they know that they will always have someone looking up to them.

“I have so much fun with my kids. They are always up for an adventure and I get to train little people to do all the things that I love.” English and journalism teacher Kate Gooding said.

Students at CHS absolutely will be honoring their mothers this Mother’s Day.

“My mom taught me how to live life to the fullest and not make bad choices,” Freshman Eli Heyman said.

Students have expressed their gratitude for their mothers and are thankful for all that they have done for them.

“She tucks me in at bedtime,” Freshman Sawyer Mason said.

Mothers all around the world deserve this day to be honored and thanked a million times for all that they have done for their children. Teacher or not, they all have taught their children life skills and love.
