As the season for the Camas High School (CHS) boys soccer team goes underway, the captains for the team were finally announced at the Papermakers’ first game against Olympia. The senior captains for the spring 2023 season will be JP Warnell and Brayden Price. These two have played for the Papermakers for their whole high school careers, and have put in the work to get to the point that they are at now.

Both Warnell and Price are great players who have the potential to lead the Papermakers to a state title this year. Warnell is the Papermakers’ big man up top and will be an integral part of the Papermakers’ offense this year. “To me, being the captain of the team feels amazing because I get to co-lead an amazing group of players to a deep state run,” Warnell said.

Price is the Papermakers’ defensive rock, leading a strong back line to lock down the opposing team’s attack. “It feels great to be a captain of the team this year because of the great group of guys that I get to lead and play with,” Price said.

Both captains believe that the Papermakers team this year has the potential to go far in bi-districts and the state tournament. “I believe that this team can win state this year. We are quite a young team, but we have a lot of experience that could lead us to a state ring,” Warnell said.

The Papermakers have been putting in the work at practice, and have played tough games against good teams from the Seattle area to prepare for the high level of soccer that they will be forced to go against during the playoffs. “I think with the mentality, work ethic, and talent that our players have, we have a strong chance at going deep into the state tournament. We pride ourselves on working harder every practice and game to get us to our goal,” Price said.

While the focus of this article is on the captains of the boys soccer team, the level of play and leadership from everyone on the team is part of why the Papermakers are a strong team each year. The standard at which the CHS boys soccer program holds its players is high, which creates an environment of hard work and excellence. “Being a part of the respected and prestigious Camas boys soccer program is something that is truly special and is something that every player would agree is one of the highlights of their high school career,” Price said.
