In the 2021 season, the CHS girls soccer team went undefeated throughout the season and won the state championship. This success was backed by a strong senior class including all-state players Jasmine Whittington, Maya Parman, Lily Loughney, and Emerson Grafton. “I think last year’s team was so good because we all had a lot of experience, tenacity, and enthusiasm. We all knew we could do it and we all wanted it so bad. We also had great teammate leadership from players like Maya Parman. That makes me more excited for the team this year because we have amazing players like Keely Wieczorek to push us towards success,” senior Nora Melcher said.

The success of last year puts an intense amount of pressure on the girls to perform at a high level once again. While the team took huge losses in personnel, they have another strong senior class that is looking to once again lead their team to the postseason. “I think most of the team is aiming for a solid postseason. State is still in our sights but it’s one step at a time,” junior Savannah Kvistad said.

In the sphere of CHS sports, soccer has always had a strong girls program. Many players look forward to games under the lights of Doc Harris Stadium, and playing against challenging teams that test the poise and character of the team. Every year the girls soccer team is forced to work through challenges such as personnel changes, coaching changes, and team chemistry issues. While the odds are against them, they always manage to come out on top and prove their dominance. “I think that confidence makes Camas a good soccer team. Preparation and teammate support almost guarantees success. When we all trust and encourage each other, we play some of our best soccer,” Melcher said.

One of the biggest games of the season was against Camas High School’s biggest rival: Union High School. Camas dominated throughout the contest and game out victorious with a score of 2-0. These games are always exciting and filled with passion from both teams and their supporters. “Come support us at our games! We feed off the energy of the crowd and love to have people there supporting us,” Kvistad said.

The start of the Camas girls soccer team’s season is off to a great start. They started the regular season with a big win over one of their biggest rivals, Skyview High School. “I have high expectations for the team this season. So far, we have been improving every single game, and I think we are only going to get better. I definitely think that we can win the league this year. Our preseason this year is pretty tough, and it’s setting us up to dominate other teams in our league. I also think that we could win bi-districts again and go to state!” Melcher said.
