Boys Varsity Basketball Season Comes to an End
March 4, 2022
The Camas High School boys basketball team wrapped up their historic season with their loss to Graham Kapowsin on Feb 18. The team’s championship run came to an end, but their morale is high after the strong performance and community that they were able to maintain throughout a long season.
Sophomore Owen Tuttle said, ”I am happy with how the season went because we all worked hard to be where we are at, and even though we didn’t win, the team left it on the court.”
The loss to Graham Kapowsin was a heartbreaking game where CHS lost in overtime 97-95. “[I think the] reason the season ended the way it did was because of the long travel we did almost every day in the postseason which could have caused fatigue over time.
Junior Matthew Chilian said, “I don’t know why we lost the game. It was probably a mix of a bunch of different factors, but I have not looked back at the film to see what happened.” It is safe to say that the outcome of the game versus Graham Kapowsin could have easily been different, but the effort of the team to put out such a great season made the loss a little less bitter.
After the painful loss, it is important to look back on the great memories of the season. “My favorite memory from the season was when we all got the opportunity to play in the tournament in San Diego,” Chilian said. The CHS basketball team traveled to San Diego over the winter break earlier this year to participate in a basketball tournament.
“One of my favorite moments this season was the win against Union at the warehouse,” Tuttle said. CHS beat Union this year at home on Feb 8 of this year. CHS won in a close game with a score of 80-77. This was one of the biggest games of the year and CHS was able to work as a team to come out on top.
Even though the season ended with a painful loss, the CHS boys basketball team were able to keep a great sense of community within the program and were able to better themselves each and every day. “I want to thank our seniors for everything and inspiring returning players to work harder,” Tuttle said.
