Every year some Camas High School (CHS) students participate in Valentine’s Day traditions such as spending the day with their significant other or going out with their family.

Some students at CHS may have a hard time coming up with ideas on what to do on Valentine’s day because they have no one to spend it with or have no plans in general. Sophomore Zayah Shore said she plans to spend the day alone, likely doing nothing. “I’ll probably be staying home or I may hang out with my sister’s friends but I’ll probably just stay home.” It seems this type of behavior is becoming more prevalent in society every year.

It is no secret that people, especially CHS students are becoming more introverted as the years go on, this may be due to the pressure put on CHS students to interact with one another to form friendships, but oftentimes these friendships feel artificial or students may feel like the connections they have formed no real meaning to them.

Sophomore Brandy Alejandre at Graham-Kapowsin High School (GKHS) said that she hates friendships that are forced upon her and that not everything is as happy as it is made out to be “Some kids are just annoying and my parents expect me to be nice to

them like that but no, not everything is rainbows.” It is relationships like this that make Valentine’s day more of a day to be forgotten than one to celebrate.

Some CHS students may have trouble deciding on what to do because of the societal push to spend that day with another person, but for most CHS students it will just be another day of school. As far as CHS’s plans for Valentine’s Day, CHS staff set up a stand where a CHS student could buy a can of Crush soda for another person for $2, these cans of Crush will be delivered

on Monday, Feb. 14.

Along with the Crush soda concession stand, CHS is also allowing CHS students to pay $10 for a serenade from the CHS choir, the serenade will be delivered during 4th period on Feb. 14 and the song that they sing can be picked out by the CHS student that bought it, as long as it is from their catalog which features multiple songs.
