    A Season of Giving

    A+Season+of+Giving

Throughout this holiday season, there are many opportunities to give and help our community. Many clubs at Camas High School are working to sponsor different charities and make the holidays special.

The Red Cross Club is one of these organizations. This club is lending a hand this season by participating in a holiday caroling event for Veterans on December 21. Along with caroling, the Red Cross Club is making and delivering cards to Veterans. In addition, the organization is holding a blood drive on December 29 that will occur out of the local Vancouver Red Cross Blood Donor Center.  Join the Red Cross Club in room 805 every 1st and 3rd Tuesday each month to get involved in any of these activities. Meetings are held at 2:30-3:00 PM.

Another club that is trying to make a difference this winter is the National Honor Society.  The NHS club has worked on “Lost Change” (a collection of money for homeless youth), the Holly Days Bazaar and Santa Breakfast, and they also donated $200 to stuff the bus to help local families.  For more information on upcoming NHS service opportunities, contact Mrs. Dignan or watch for new hall signs posting events.

There are many other ways students can help the community on their own. The following are local charities that are a great way to get involved this year:

The Camas Washougal Community Chest is a non-profit organization that raises money for organizations that deal with education, aiding those with special needs, natural resource conservation, health and welfare, and crisis and emergency services. The Community Chest accepts donations online at http://www.camaswashougalcommunitychest.org.

Another local charity is the Inter-Faith Treasure House. The mission of Inter-Faith Treasure House focuses on helping the less fortunate in the community by providing food, clothing, and emergency assistance to children and their families who are in crisis. To support the Treasure House, donate non-perishable food and clothing (in good condition) to 91 C Street, Washougal, WA 98671. The Treasure House also needs volunteers to help serve food. For more information see http://www.ifth-cw.org.

Whether by joining a school club or supporting a local non-profit, there are several ways Camas High students can make a difference in their community.  Start today to bless the lives of others by finding ways to make this a season of giving.
