Camas High School Sophomore, pitcher, and third baseman, Boston Jensen, verbally committed to play baseball at Washington State University on February 17th. Currently, he is the second player in the CHS baseball program to commit to play Division I baseball. Fellow CHS Junior Zach Blair verbally committed to Oregon State University last year.
Jensen started his recruiting process last year, right about when the COVID-19 pandemic started. He was supported by one of his club coaches at Northwest Futures, Nick Lubisich. College coaches watched him throughout the summer and fall as he played in tournaments with his team. They were able to play tournaments in Washington, Oregon, and Arizona.
He said, “I’ve been playing for them (NW Futures) since I was nine or ten, it’s just been a great environment. Super good coaching and they’ve just really helped me along the way.”
The University of Utah offered Jensen the day after WSU did. He decided that the WSU program was the best fit for him because it would be an easy transition to college. Jensen has been to Pullman before to watch games and tour the campus.
“They’re (WSU) kind of the up and coming in the PAC 12. They’ll be a pretty good baseball team and super competitive,” he said.
Jensen described the culture of CHS baseball as “very exciting” and “a great environment to be around.”
Fellow teammates of Jensen and Blair commented on their recent verbal commitments.
CHS Sophomore Max Fraser said, “Boston and Zach are good dudes and are fun to have on the field. I think it’s pretty cool that they have offers this early in their career and I think that having them on the team will create a good foundation for the team we are building. I am excited to see what the future holds for Camas baseball.”
CHS Sophomore Easton McCarty said, “I think it’s really cool and good for the program, could get us some good recognition. A really great opportunity for them and I think they deserve it.”
Tyler Forner, a 2020 CHS graduate who signed to play professional baseball for the San Francisco Giants last June, expressed his excitement for the bright future of the CHS baseball program.
He said, “These dudes can do anything, with the amazing weight room, new field, and new hitting complex there is no limit on the success these dudes can have with Coach Short leading the way to get a ring.”
Forner believes that Jensen and Blair’s commitments will shine a spotlight on the CHS program and help other guys get recognized.
“It definitely will shine a spotlight on the CHS program and get more eyes out here for other studs we got playing ball out here,” he said.
For up-and-coming CHS baseball players, Forner is a legend. Everyone strives to attain the level of success he has worked so hard to achieve.
Jensen said, “Tyler’s always been somebody to look up to, whether you’re a football player or baseball player. He’s definitely a stud and it’s definitely motivation for a lot of people to get to that point because it’s not easy to do.”
The baseball season is set to officially start on April 12th.
“This year should be the biggest year that I’ve ever played. Just to have an all-around good year and not go into any slumps,” Jensen said.
He added, “We’re a super young team, we only have a couple of seniors so I think that winning games is the biggest thing and being closer as a program.”
