Camas School District Superintendent Jeff Snell shared a message about Black History Month.

“Black History Month provides a chance to pause and reflect on the impact of Black citizens who have made such a difference,” he said.

Snell shared his favorite quote from the late civil rights leader, statesmen, and politician John Lewis.

“You are a light. You are the light. Never let anyone — any person or any force — dampen, dim or diminish your light … Release the need to hate, to harbor division, and the enticement of revenge. Release all bitterness. Hold only love, only peace in your heart, knowing that the battle of good to overcome evil is already won.”

Snell added, “It’s inspirational to me to see how leaders have overcome and persevered and it makes me want to do better. It makes me want to help create and sustain a community where the energy doesn’t have to be focused on overcoming discrimination and oppression because our community is inclusive and welcoming for all.”
