I always hoped my senior year would be one to remember; although, this is not the way I thought it would happen. I never thought I would miss out on the last few months of my senior year. I understand that everyone has been affected by the Coronavirus outbreak, but I think it hits the seniors a little differently.
For the past three years, the class of 2020 has been looking forward to the many exciting and memorable things that take place as a senior. Events including, senior prom, senior-father breakfast, senior-mother tea, and graduation have all been canceled due to something completely out of our control. This loss of control is the hardest for me.
I completely know the importance of social distancing and flattening the curve. What I cannot wrap my mind around is the fact that there is nothing I can do to change what is happening in the world. I count the days I am stuck in my house and the many things I am missing out on.
Although, I have also learned many things during this “Coronacation”. I have learned patience and empathy for others. Above all, I have learned to look on the bright side. In a world turned upside down, there are still people who go out of their way to make people smile. We also live in a time where technology can keep people connected. I have also been able to use this time to catch up on rest and focus on my mental and physical health.
There are also many new things that I have started during my extra time at home. I have cut sugar out of my diet and have been focusing on meeting my water goal each day. I have started exercising and soaking up the sun. I have also crocheted a blanket, painted my closet, and began cooking new recipes. I have found that by keeping busy, the time seems much more meaningful.
While I am still unsure of the future, I have chosen to live in the present and focus more on the things I can control. I hope that everyone will choose to do the right thing by staying home and taking this virus seriously. I hope that we can work together to flatten the curve and protect those who are at higher risk. I send my thoughts to all those who are struggling. I know that no matter how hopeless we may feel right now, we will get through this.
