Every year, Camas High School grows in numbers with fresh sets of athletes ambitious to join a sports team; however, only a small handful will meet Camas’ high athletic standards.
With the upcoming winter tryouts for boys’ basketball, coach Ryan Johnson has many things he wants athletes to keep in mind for tryouts and how they should prepare to make the cuts.
“This will be one of the more competitive tryouts we’ll have in the last several years,” Josephson said. “We’re going to have to make really tough decisions over high-quality players.”
To help a player grow and become more qualified for tryouts, Josephson has designed workouts to help a player grow bigger, faster, and stronger.
“We have been doing workouts where anyone is invited on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays that will help a player with their conditioning when tryouts start,” Josephson said. “It’s a great way to get on the court and start playing against guys that they might see at tryouts.”
These are held after school in the main gym for anyone to come and prep for this year’s winter Basketball season. CHS also hosts open gyms on Wednesday at 7:30pm, and Coach Josephson suggests attending those as well.
Coach Josephson is seeking a player that is competitive, hard-working, and a team player.
“We’re looking for players that can best help the team win, and elevate the program to a new level,” he said. “I would like to see all three teams in our program being as competitive as possible in all their games… I would also like to see the varsity program setting a standard for excellence in Camas basketball that will be a model for those younger teams to emulate and grow upon.”
Tryouts for boys basketball are on November 18th, and go until the 22nd.
“A lot of people are interested in making the basketball team, so work hard,” Coach Josephson said.
